  桂建芳,男,汉族,1956年6月生,中共党员,理学博士,中国科学院院士,发展中国家院士,博士生导师;1999年至2007年任水生所常务副所长、所长;2001年至2011年任淡水生态与生物技术国家重点实验室主任;现为农业部第八届科学技术委员会委员,中国海洋湖沼学会副理事长,中国水产学会常务理事,湖北省遗传学会和湖北省细胞学会副理事长,中国遗传学会、中国细胞生物学会和中国鱼类学会理事;《水生生物学报》主编,Gene, Science China Life Sciences、《中国科学生命科学》、《动物学研究》、《中国水产科学》编委;国家科学技术部973计划 “重要养殖鱼类功能基因组和分子设计育种的基础研究”项目首席科学家;国家水产原良种审定委员会副主任。

  1982年1月毕业于武汉大学细胞生物学专业,获学士学位;1984年12月在武汉大学遗传学专业获硕士学位,同年到中国科学院水生生物研究所工作;1995年6月在中国科学院水生生物研究所获理学博士学位。1991年12月至1994年9月曾在美国俄亥俄医学院和加州大学圣迭戈校区进行工作访问和博士后研究,主要研究RNA剪接与细胞周期调控的关系。现在主要从事与鱼类育种生物技术相关的遗传、细胞和发育生物学研究。已在Nature, PNAS, Mol. Biol. Evol., Immunity, J. Immunol., J. Virol., Dev. Biol., Mol. Cell. Endocrinol., Biol. Reprod., Animal Genetics, Science China Life Sciences,《中国科学生命科学》和《科学通报》等国内外核心刊物上发表研究论文390多篇,其中SCI刊源论文210多篇,出版专著和研究生教材7部;论著被用9000多次。已培养毕业博士和硕士以及出站博后共100多位,毕业的博士中获中国科学院院长特别奖1名,优秀奖2名。作为主持人培育出水产新品种异育银鲫“中科3号”,作为主要合作者培育水产新品种黄颡鱼“全雄1号”和长丰鲫;研究成果获奖10项,其中包括国家自然科学奖二等奖1项(2011年),湖北省自然科学奖一等奖1项(2003年),湖北省科技进步奖一等奖1项(2011年);授权专利10项。1988获中国青年科技奖,1989年获中国科学院青年科学家奖二等奖,1990年获湖北省青年科技精英称号,1994年获国家杰出青年科学基金资助,1995年获中国科学院青年科学家奖一等奖, 1996年获香港求是科技基金会杰出青年学者奖,1997年入选国家百千万人才工程,1998年获中国科学院优秀研究生导师奖,1998年获中国科学院有突出贡献的中青年专家称号,2003年获中国科学院优秀研究生导师奖,2003年获湖北省“五一劳动奖章”, 2004年获湖北省“劳动模范”, 2004年获科技部国家重点实验室计划先进个人,2009年获全国“五一劳动奖章”,2011年获科技部“十一五”国家科技计划执行突出贡献奖,2015年获全国先进工作者、湖北省科技突出贡献奖和何梁何利基金科学与技术进步奖等荣誉称号。

  长期从事鱼类遗传育种生物学基础和相关生物技术研究。系统研究多倍体银鲫的遗传基础和生殖机制,首次揭示银鲫独特的单性和有性双重生殖方式;原创银鲫育种技术路线,培育出有重大应用价值的银鲫养殖新品种;开拓出一条X和Y染色体连锁标记辅助的全雄鱼培育技术路线。目前研究重点集中在三个方面:I. 生殖发育及免疫等相关功能基因的克隆与鉴定;II. 多倍体银鲫全基因组解析,鱼类基因组编辑与全基因组选择育种;III.可用于水产动物遗传育种和生态遗传学研究的分子标记的开发与应用。
