Professor Li was born in May 1943 in Shaoyang, Hunan Province. He graduated from Peking University in 1968, got his Master of Engineering Degree from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1981 and his Ph.D. Degree from Purdue University, U.S.A. in 1985. He carried out postdoctoral research of computer architecture at the CSL Laboratory of Illinois University, U.S.A. between 1985 and 1986. In 1987, he came back to China and worked with ICT, CAS. Since 1989, he has been a professor at ICT. In 1990, he was appointed by the State Science and Technology Commission as Director of the National Research Center for Intelligent Computing Systems (NCIC). Over the past decades, he has been devoting himself to the research in parallel processing, computer architecture, artificial intelligence and so on. In all, he has published over 100 academic papers and collaborated with others 4 monographs in English. Currently, he is the Chief Editor of Journal of Computer Science and Technology.
In recent years, Professor Li Guojie successfully led the research and development of Dawning-1 parallel computer, Dawning-1000 massively parallel processing systems (MPP), Dawning-2000 & Dawning-3000 super server. Under his leadership, ICT successfully developed Loongson high performance general purpose CPU. He presided over the IPv6 network research, a major project of CAS. Dawning-1 won the special prize for Scientific and Technological Advancement by CAS in 1994, and the second prize for State Scientific and Technological Advancement in 1995; Dawning-1000 won the special prize for Scientific and Technological Advancement by CAS in 1996, and the first prize for State Scientific and Technological Advancement in 1997. Dawning-2000 and Dawning 3000 won the second prize for State Scientific and Technological Advancement in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Professor Li won the first He_Liang_He_Li Foundation Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement in 1994. In 1995, he was elected as Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and one of the “Most Advanced Workers” throughout the country in 2000. In 2001, he won the Outstanding Alumni Award of Purdue University. In 2002, he was elected as Member of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). 

At present, Professor Li is Director of ICT, CAS, Council Chairman of China Computer Federation (CCF), Dean of Information and Electronics Division of CAE, Associate Dean of Expert Committee in information domain of 863 Program, Member of the Advisory Committee for State Informatization, Deputy to National People's Congress.
