Research Interest
Like animals, plants are equipped to detect invading microbial pathogens through specialized immune receptors and trigger robust immune responses. A major interest in the lab is to understand the molecular basis of pathogen-recognition and signal transduction pathways leading to plant disease resistance. Pathogenic microbes are capable of delivering a variety of virulence proteins into the host cell. These proteins can suppress plant immunity, modulate cellular processes, and assist pathogen progression in plants. Understanding how these proteins manipulate host cellular processes is major focus in the lab.
